Medica. Still the biggest and best

This year’s Medica and the co-located Compamed exhibition, ran from 16 – 19 November, taking up 19 halls of the Düsseldorf Messe. So as usual it was good exercise! According to the organisers, over the 4 days there were 130,000 specialist visitors from around 120 nations (slightly up on the previous year’s total of 128,500).
This was the first year that it started on the Monday – so was this earlier start a success? All exhibitors I spoke with said that they were not very busy on the Monday, which was in sharp contrast with the Tuesday – when it was very busy, particularly in the morning. With only one year’s track record to go by, it is too early to say whether the Monday start is a good development, but it will need to show increasing numbers on the first day.
As usual, Medica is the place to be if you are looking for distributors, partners, to check out the competition, or to “do deals”. Chinese and other Asian manufacturers continue to be increasingly represented and, according to the organisers over 50 percent of visitors were international, particularly from the USA, Latin America and especially from Iran and countries located in the Arabic-speaking regions.
So if your company sells products/services for hospitals, practices, laboratories, healthcare retail or insurance, Medica/Compamed is still very well worth attending (once you’ve got over the exorbitant cost of hotel rooms). However in order to make it work, company’s should be setting up meetings in advance, and – when you consider that there are almost 5,000 other exhibitors – you should be doing some pre-marketing to help drive traffic to your booth. We can help here – see our website for more info.
Medica/Compamed 2016 runs from 4 – 17 November, so I hope to see you there!

PS. As usual, German public transport was efficient, clean and on time – things that you can’t always say about the British equivalents. That said, a 20 minute delay in my train service from London Gatwick saved me an hour’s wait for the next scheduled service. Sometimes delays do work in your favour!
