Rich content has become increasingly popular in recent years, making it both the present and future of marketing – and an essential part of any content marketing strategy!
In this blog, we’ll talk you through four simple tips to help take your rich content to the next level
1. Keep it simple
Rich content doesn’t need to be difficult. In fact, any form of content that isn’t your traditional text format can be classified as ‘Rich’. Something as simple as adding an image to your blog post or emojis to your LinkedIn posts!
Adding a relatable stock image to your LinkedIn post is pretty easy – and cost-effective – and can increase its engagement by a whopping 650% [1]! Plus users are 80% more likely to read the written content of a post containing imagery [1]. Of course, videos, animations, GIFs, podcasts etc. are all beneficial and great at generating engagement, but they’re often expensive and time-consuming and so definitely aren’t essential. Start with adding an image to your LinkedIn posts and then progress from there!
2. Choose your content wisely
An important point to consider when implementing rich content is ensuring the medium and content you choose suits the purpose of the information you are trying to portray. If you are outlining a scientific process for example, an infographic or animation will be more effective than a talking head video.
It’s also important to ensure the quality of content you’re sharing is high. If you’re adding an image to your blog post, ensure that it’s high-quality and relates to your blog – and that it’s royalty-free! Using unrelated images for the sake of engagement is frustrating for your audience and can lead to disengagement, so quality and relatability is everything!
Similarly, if you’re producing video content, ensure that the camera you’re using is good quality (this can most definitely be a phone camera!), the background chosen is simple and clean, and you’re using a tripod to keep the camera steady – no one likes watching shaky video footage!
Sound is also extremely important when it comes to video content, so make sure you’re filming in a quiet location, and if possible, use an external microphone. Top tip – an additional smartphone for recording sound, located out of shot but close to the subject talking in your video, can be a great way to improve sound quality!
3. Utilise online resources
The idea of creating rich content pieces can be daunting, especially if you have never used graphic design or video creation software before! Luckily, there are a number of online resources which you can use to create high-quality rich content pieces.
If you are friends with any marketing professionals, I’m sure that you will have heard the name “Canva” thrown around before – it gets a lot of hype and we must say, it lives up to it! Canva is one of the best tools out there for creating images and graphics. It’s simple to use and provides you with everything from poster templates, to Instagram story layouts, and even logos. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a quick and easy way to create good quality content, but don’t want to spend the money on fancy design software. Fun fact – Canva has recently implemented a new AI feature making it even easier to create eye-catching content!
Royalty-free images are extremely useful, whether you’re using them on their own in a blog, or incorporating them into a larger graphic. Many websites provide royalty-free images with a charge, however the site Pexels provides them for free, with many different options available.
Similarly, if you’re looking for some free audio tracks to accompany a video, YouTube’s Audio Library has thousands of royalty-free audio options to use in your videos. The usage rights of these can vary from track to track so make sure you don’t get caught out by this!
4. Think creatively
Rich content is simple, but it pays to be creative. If you’re really wanting to increase engagement, think about using some more interactive content such as GIFs or memes. Still very simple and easy to make, but will be more appealing to your audience. A good science related meme is hard to resist!
Ezgif is a great little tool for creating gifs. If you have a video file or a series of images that you would to repurpose & convert to a gif for social media, Ezgif is the tool for you!
