Fresh! Issue 4 November 09
Give your PR and Marketing some pizazz
It’s now November and that makes me think of fireworks. Whether it’s Bonfire night, Thanksgiving, Diwali or New Year, November falls bang in the middle of three months of firework displays. It’s amazing how a mixture of black powder with magnesium (silver), lithium salts (red), strontium and copper compounds (combined for purple) can light up a dark sky and make us “ooooh” and “ahhh”. With 2010 looming ever closer and PR and marketing plans starting to come together, now is the right time to think about how you can mix things up a little in the new year and add some “pizazz” and sparkle to your programme.
Over the last year we have seen new initiatives really take off in the world of PR and Marketing, not least the rising emphasis on digital campaigns. “Web flood” PR, social network marketing, scientific portals and virtual conferences will be leading us into 2010, adding new elements of excitement to the marketing mix. Contact us to find out how doing things just a little bit differently could add impact to your campaign.

Alto out and about
Biotechnica 2009
David, Director, reports: In early October, Neil and I travelled to Biotechnica, at the Hannover Messe. CHI’s Bio-IT World Europe conference took place during the show, bringing in a number of IT-based companies. Traffic seemed similar to last year – not overly busy, but justifying its place in the calendar – and clients and other exhibitors seemed OK with the attendance. However, the hall with IT companies, smaller exhibitors and Korean “pavillion” was quiet.
So the moral of the story is, if you plan to attend Biotechnica, book to be in the main hall – and/or work on show promotions to drive traffic to your stand; good advice for any exhibition of course. Biotechnica is still a good show for media, with US and European in attendance, and we had good editor meetings this year.

From time to time we hear of industry people looking for a change in employment. If you have a marketing/sales/business development vacancy, we may be able to put you in contact with a suitable candidate. Contact David or Chris with details.
Best regards
