The World’s all a Twitter
The micro-blogging platform Twitter has been making the headlines around the world with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Stephen Fry and Barack Obama all joining in and tweeting out their news and views. But this is not just a format for celebrities, thousands of businesses and professionals are online and searching Twitter for information on everything from laboratory products and techniques to health news and issues.
In just 140 characters or less, millions of users are “tweeting” bite sized snippets of information to followers with similar interests. Amongst those actively engaging in the Twitter community are @GenomeWeb, @NatureChemistry, @NewScientist and @LaboratoryNews, all reaching out to technicians, researchers and scientist working in the field.
Here at Alto we have been actively tweeting out client press releases via the Alto Twitter account, providing you with wider coverage and reaching the thousands of publications who are actively using Twitter themselves. We are also running Twitter campaigns for clients and seeing excellent results, from improved organic search rankings in Google and increased website referrals to “re-tweets” by top science and healthcare publications using Twitter.
