Features Calendars vs Advent Calendars?
Well here it is again, that festive time of year when stockings are hung on the chimney with care and children hope that St Nicholas soon will be there. The Alto elves are busy putting the final touches to 2010 features calendars this month, ensuring that your PR is fed into publications when your topics are being covered.
Unlike our Advent calendars, there’s no chocolate to enjoy, but features calendars help us plan ahead and consider placement of articles and any strategic advertising for the year ahead, and therefore make up an important part to your PR programme.

This Month’s Tip
2010 Marketing: 3 things you shouldn’t do
At this time of year you will find numerous blog posts and articles in magazines telling you what you should be doing in the new year to re-energise your marketing programme. However, Chris Rand of Business Marketing Online explains what you should not be doing. Chris’s blog covers three key points:
1. Don’t buy anything which doesn’t have a good return on investment
2. Don’t buy something just because you always have done
3. Don’t waste money attracting attention but not turning that into leads
So when you are planning your 2010 PR and Marketing programme, consider the above and then why not speak to your account manager about how you can excite and maximise your PR programme.

A little festive viral fun
Viral marketing is a great way to get your brand message out to a large group of people. Great viral campaigns have used games, video, personalisation and have enabled people to mass distribute the catchy deliverable to their friends, colleagues and social network through “forward to a friend” features, social bookmarks and email.
As it is almost Christmas, we thought we’d share some of our favourite festive viral campaigns that we have seen:
• NORAD tracks Santa – From 1st December but most importantly on Christmas Eve, follow Santa’s progress around the world.
• Elf Yourself – Using photographs of you and your friends, create a troop of dancing elves!
From time to time we hear of industry people looking for a change in employment. If you have a marketing/sales/business development vacancy, we may be able to put you in contact with a suitable candidate. Contact David or Chris with details.
Best regards
The Alto Team
