January Show Update

LabAutomation 2009, Palm Springs, USA
Alto attendees – David Robinson and Clare Russell

ALA
We are expecting visitors numbers at exhibitions to be down this year as travel budgets are easiest to cut in an economic downturn. This was borne out at LabAutomation, and although final figures are yet to be released, the general talk was that there was between 5-20% fewer visitors than last year. However, the clients and other exhibitors that we spoke with seemed pretty happy with the show as the people that attended were the people that they needed to see. In addition, media attendance seemed to be as good, or even slightly better, than previously.

All in all, still a good show and worth attending. www.labautomation.org

ArabHealth 2009 – Dubai, UAE
Alto attendees – Chris Kiddy and Cat Stormont

ArabHealth is reported to be the MEDICA of the Middle East, and with 12 halls heaving with exhibitors and delegates it certainly lives up to expectations.

Dubai
This year over 2300 exhibitors representing 70+ countries descended upon the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre to bring healthcare manufacturers, wholesalers, dealers and distributors from across the globe together in the Middle East. A 20% increase in visitor numbers confirmed reports from the exhibition floor that the Middle East – and especially Saudi Arabia – is a growing area for healthcare investment despite the economic downturn. Whilst ArabHealth covered medical devices, imaging, facilities and point of care diagnostics, the MedLab exhibition which ran consecutively, provided pathology and medical laboratory specialists the opportunity to reach key influencers in the healthcare sector at the same time. With 30 different country pavilions split across the different halls it was easy to identify companies and distributors by region.
